Where are the classes held?

All classes take place at: Alton Community Centre

What age groups do you teach?

We run structured classes for different age groups:
Brave Tigers (4–9 years)
Warrior Lions (10–15 years)
Adults / Cadets (16+)
Each group trains separately to ensure age-appropriate learning.

What are the training times?

Brave Tigers (4–9)

  • Monday: 5:00pm – 5:45pm
  • Wednesday: 5:00pm – 5:45pm
  • Friday: 5:00pm – 5:45pm

 Warrior Lions (10–15)

  •  Monday: 5:45pm – 6:45pm
  •  Wednesday: 5:45pm – 6:45pm
  •  Friday: 5:45pm – 6:45pm

 Adults / Cadets (16+)

  •  Monday: 6:45pm – 7:45pm
  •  Wednesday: 6:45pm – 7:45pm
  •  Friday: 6:45pm – 7:45pm

Members may attend once, twice, or multiple times per week.

What does a typical class include?

Each training session consists of:

  • Warm-up and flexibility 
  • Basic techniques (Kihon) 
  • Forms (Kata) 
  • Partner training (Kumite) 
  • Discipline, confidence, and mental development 
  • Classes are structured, safe, and adapted to each student’s level.

What style of karate do you teach?

We teach traditional Shotokan–Fudokan Karate, focusing on: 

  • Self-defence skills 
  • Discipline and respect 
  • Physical fitness 
  • Mental strength 
  • Optional competition training

 This is traditional martial arts, not fitness boxing or commercial sport karate.

How does the belt system work?

We follow the traditional Japanese kyu/dan system: 

White → Yellow → Orange → Green → Blue → Brown → Black

Gradings are normally held every 4–6 months, depending on:

  • Attendance 
  • Technical level 
  • Attitude and discipline 
  • Progress is earned, not bought.

How much does membership cost?

Membership Fees:

 Individual Membership Brave Tigers:

  • £30.00 per month – training once per week ( 45min )
  • £40.00 per month – training twice per week ( 45min )
  • £50.00 per month – unlimited training per week ( 45min )

 Individual Membership Warrior Lions:

  • £35.00 per month – training once per week ( 60min )
  • £45.00 per month – training twice per week ( 60min )
  • £55.00 per month – unlimited training per week ( 60min )

 Individual Membership The Alpha Club:

  • £40.00 per month – training once per week ( 60min )
  • £50.00 per month – training twice per week ( 60min )
  • £60.00 per month – unlimited training per week ( 60min )

There are no long-term contracts.

How long are the classes?

Children (4–9): 45 minutes 

Juniors (10–15): 60 minutes 

Adults: 60 minutes

Is insurance included?

Yes. All members are covered by: 

Public Liability Insurance (£1,000,000), Personal Accident Insurance

Do I need special equipment?

For the first sessions: 

  • Comfortable sportswear 
  • Training is barefoot 

After joining: 

  • Karate uniform (Gi) 
  • Protective equipment (for sparring) 

We offer a standardised Starter Kit with different price options.

What are the joining costs?

Joining / Start-up Costs

  • First session: FREE
  • Monthly membership (as above)
  • Insurance + Karate Association annual award (once a year) £20
  • Karate uniform (Gi) – required after a short time and Protective equipment (around £80)

 We also offer a standardised Starter Kit package at different price levels to help parents choose easily.

 There are no hidden fees.

 

Can I try before joining?

Yes. Your first session is free of charge.

 You can attend any regular class and experience the training before committing.

Do you prepare students for competitions?

Yes, for students who are interested.

 Competition training is optional and does not replace traditional education.

Is karate suitable for beginners?

Absolutely. Most of our students start with no previous experience.

 We welcome beginners at any time of the year.
